Introduction

Background

The National Strategies have been established in key areas of primary and secondary education to support School Improvement through a sustained focus on improving the quality of learning and teaching and raising standards for all children.

The Strategies offer a wide range of curriculum and pedagogical guidance as well as a wealth of supporting resources, including self-evaluation materials to support the cycle of school improvement.

Purpose

This interactive self-evaluation tool is designed to help leadership teams to assess the stage of development of the school as a whole in selected focus areas. It offers the opportunity to consider a range of ‘best fit’ statements using the well-known continuum ‘focusing, developing, establishing, enhancing’ and then to confirm or alter this initial judgement by referring to descriptors of the kind of evidence a school might look for in its own practice.

Once the leadership team has confirmed its judgement regarding the stage the school has reached, the tool then offers suggestions for actions which can support further progress along the continuum. These action points are linked to supporting resources.

The Quick Search facility provides a faster, though less focused, method of searching the available resources using categories and keywords.
